POWs
and Internees came from many countries and, in each case, we have attempted to
indicate the numbers taken and the casualty rates involved. It must be said that
in many cases the records are extremely difficult to find and even more
difficult to cross reference.
Since a
number of source documents have been consulted, this information should be
regarded as strongly indicative rather than absolute. In some cases the numbers
have been compiled from documents produced after the war ended. We do not,
however, doubt the overall story told by the numbers. |
